The inaugural 10 Sports – 1 Day Multi-Sport Tournament FUNdraiser will support the CAMPS Project, an initiative that provides free sports opportunities to children and youth from Ottawa Community Housing neighbourhoods (see OttawaSportsCAMPS.ca/About-Us for full details).
The Tournament itself will see teams rotate through a variety of sports stations, including several sports you may have never tried before (a coordinator will be present at each station to guide players). The list of sports includes: Futsal (Indoor Soccer), Pickleball, Volleyball, Dek Ball Hockey, Basketball, Ladder Ball, Soccer-Baseball, Disk Golf, Lawn Bowls & Beginner Golf. Prizes for the winning team and best spirit.
Our goal is to provide a fun-filled experience in a positive environment, featuring sports that are accessible to participants with varied athletic abilities. The Tournament is geared towards adult recreational participants and teenagers comfortable in that setting.
Why are we fundraising? In 2017, the CAMPS Project opened up over 175 free positions in partner sports clubs’ summer camps and seasonal programs for low-income youth (worth roughly $50,000). We are sure to surpass that total in 2018, having implemented several larger-scale programs to bring more kids out to sports clubs on a weekly basis to work with local leaders in athlete and community development.
Alongside our partners with the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation’s recLINK program, our not-for-profit organization is committed to minimizing all barriers to participation for our kids, so we provide bus transportation to take them to their activities. Our fundraiser will help cover transportation costs, as well as staffing to supervise participants, and organize the programs.
Ultimately, the Tournament will allow us to make a bigger impact on a greater number of kids’ lives, and enable local low-income children/youth to shoot for the stars with Ottawa’s best community sports clubs.
See the video below for an example of a CAMPS Project initiative.
